Learn & Earn

Learning and Earning
At the Janta Rehabilitation Training Centre for the Visually Handicapped (JRTC), our “Learning and Earning” philosophy is about empowering visually impaired adults with practical skills that directly lead to financial independence and dignified livelihoods. We don’t just teach; we create real-world opportunities for our students to earn from their talents and hard work. Here’s how our key programs enable this:

The JRTC Musical Group: Harmony in Action
Our JRTC Musical Group is a testament to the talent and dedication of our visually impaired students. Beyond classroom training, this group actively performs at various events, allowing our students to showcase their vocal and instrumental abilities to a wider audience. These performances aren’t just about entertainment; they are a vital source of income for our students, transforming their passion for music into a professional pursuit and a means of earning.

Festive Stalls: Lighting the Path to Entrepreneurship
During festivals like Diwali, our students don’t just celebrate; they become active participants in the local economy. We set up stalls where our blind students directly engage in the sale of candles that they have learned to make. This hands-on experience in sales and customer interaction provides invaluable business skills and instills confidence. It’s a direct way for them to earn money from their craft, understanding the market value of their hard work and contributing to their own financial well-being.

Handicrafts: Crafting Independence, One Bag at a Time
Our handicraft program is focused on creating beautiful and marketable products, particularly bags, which our blind students meticulously make. These handcrafted items are not only sold at our stalls during festivals but are also purchased directly from the NGO by generous donors. This dual sales approach ensures consistent demand for their creations, providing a steady stream of income for our students. Each bag sold represents not just a transaction, but a step towards greater self-reliance and empowerment for the visually impaired artisans.
These initiatives collectively illustrate how JRTC empowers visually impaired individuals to become self-sufficient, fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship and ensuring that their learning directly translates into earning opportunitis.
