About the Founder

Shri J.S. Sharma

A Legacy of Service and Empowerment

Shri J.S. Sharma, himself visually impaired, dedicated his life to transforming the lives of blind children and adults in India. He understood their struggles and believed that blindness should never be a barrier to education or personal growth.

At just 19, he founded the Janta Adarsh Andh Vidyalaya in Delhi, starting with only two students in a humble building. He faced many challenges, from lack of resources to public skepticism, but his determination never wavered. He personally developed lessons, trained teachers, and built a curriculum that included Braille, music, job skills, and life skills, aiming for the complete independence of his students.

The school became an officially registered society in 1975, gaining stability and recognition. Over time, Shri Sharma realized that education alone was not enough – adults who had missed out on schooling also needed support. In 1996, he established JRTC to provide vocational training, rehabilitation, and employment support to visually impaired adults.

His vision was clear: to empower the blind through education, skills, and dignity. Today, his legacy lives on in every student who finds hope and independence at JRTC. His life is a testament to the power of empathy, hard work, and the belief that one person’s efforts can bring about lasting change.
